The problem

The gym's 14-step basement staircase and its 3 front entrance steps were bare, worn concrete with tired edges. Stairs in a busy gym take constant foot traffic, so the new surface had to grip well and hold up to commercial use.

What we did

We diamond ground every tread, riser, nosing and landing to open the concrete for a mechanical bond. Then we applied an epoxy base coat, broadcast quartz aggregate to full coverage, and sealed it with two clear polyaspartic top coats. We worked one staircase at a time, scheduled around the gym's opening hours.

The result

The stairs now have a dense, slip-resistant quartz finish built for high-traffic commercial use. It wipes clean, and the textured surface gives members sure footing on every step.
