Can You Epoxy a Floor in Winter? Best Time for Garages and Basements in Ontario
Basements and indoor floors: any time of year, and winter is the best time to book them. Garages: our garage season runs from mid-March to mid-November. The polyaspartic we use (LabSurface) cures even in deep cold, so a winter garage is possible case by case, but spring through fall is when we do most of them, and those dates fill up, so book your spring garage over the winter.
Cure time: at room temperature you can walk on a new floor after 24 hours and put it back to light use after 48 hours; it reaches full cure in about 2 weeks for polyaspartic and 1 week for epoxy (manufacturer's figures). Colder means longer; we tell you when you can park again.

Good, with a plan
Humidity swings and spring rain mean we watch the forecast closely for basement and garage jobs. Concrete needs to be dry before grinding — a few extra days of buffer is normal this time of year.

Why We Check the Forecast Before Booking Your Date
Epoxy and polyaspartic coatings cure through a chemical reaction that's sensitive to temperature and humidity. Coating during a cold snap, a heat wave, or a stretch of high humidity can affect how the finish sets — so before we confirm a garage install date, we check the local forecast for your area and avoid days that could compromise the cure.
That's also why fall books up fast: temperatures are stable, humidity is lower than summer, and getting your garage coated in September or October means it's fully cured and protected before winter's salt and slush ever touch it. If you've been putting off a garage floor, the weeks before the first snowfall are the highest-value time to act.
Slat walls are different: they can go up any time of year. A lot of people put garage slat walls up over the winter and book the floor for spring.
