DIY Epoxy Floor Kits & Tools: What to Buy (Toronto Guide)
We don't sell kits. We install floors. But if you want to do a small floor yourself, this is what we'd buy: the materials, the tools you need to rent, and where most DIY floors go wrong. For a garage or a full basement, ask us for a price first.

When a DIY Epoxy Kit Makes Sense
Perfect for Homeowners & Small Toronto Projects
- Small, dry indoor floors: a laundry room, a workshop corner, a storage room.
- No labour cost for simple home improvement projects in Toronto — you trade it for your own time.
- A solid colour with a light flake broadcast is the easiest look to get right. Metallic is the hardest; we don't recommend it as a first DIY floor.
When to Call a Crew Instead
- Garages: salt, hot tires and cold slabs are hard on store-bought epoxy. Our garage floors are full polyaspartic.
- Damp basements, cracked or uneven slabs, and anything commercial.
- For full-scale projects, trust our professional epoxy installation team.

Most DIY floors that peel were rolled onto concrete that was only washed or acid-etched, never ground. The coating is rarely the problem. The prep is.
What to Buy and What to Rent
Materials
- A 100% solids epoxy (not a water-based "one-day" paint kit). Check the coverage on the label against your square footage and buy a little extra.
- Crack filler for any cracks and holes, and flakes if you want them.
- A clear top coat, plus fine anti-slip additive if the floor gets wet.
Must-Have Tools for DIY Success
- Concrete Grinder/Polisher: Rent one for proper surface prep — skipping the grind is a common reason DIY floors peel.
- Mixing & Application Tools: Drill attachments, rollers, and spiked shoes.
- Safety Gear: Respirator masks, gloves, and goggles.

DIY Epoxy vs Hiring a Crew in Toronto
Doing It Yourself
- Lower upfront cost for small garage or basement projects in Toronto, if you do the prep right.
- Plan for a full weekend or more: prep, crack repair and two or three coats, with cure time between them.
- Best for areas under 1,000 sq ft – larger spaces risk uneven results.
Professional Epoxy Flooring Services
- Diamond grinding with dust control, crack repair and moisture checks before any coating goes down.
- Garages in full polyaspartic; basements with a moisture barrier, epoxy base and polyaspartic top coat.
- 5-year warranty and long-term durability – see epoxy flooring costs.

A kit can work on a small, dry, sound floor. For a garage, a basement or a business, see our gallery for real before-and-after examples.
Rather Not Do It Yourself?
Send us a few photos of your floor and we'll text you a price. Garages are done mid-March to mid-November; basements all winter.
